Daily Hand Drumming Intensive with Pam Fleenor-Benton

Hey drummers! Let’s play!

I’m excited to invite you to the Daily Drum Class Intensive—back for the third year in a row!

We’ll focus on playing hand drums with proper technique, learning how to get clear sounds without hurting our hands. While we'll be mainly using djembe techniques, you're welcome to bring ashikos, congas, bougarabous, or doumbeks—just know we’ll still be focusing on djembe-style playing.

We'll explore traditional drumming methods from ancient cultures and learn songs from the Malinke, Sousou, Landuma, and Ga peoples. I’ll also bring dununs (bass drums) to teach patterns that go along with the djembe rhythms.

We’ll even dive into using drums melodically—to enhance chanting and rituals. In fact, we’ll have live chanters joining a couple of sessions to guide us in that work.

Each class builds on the last, so try to come to as many as you can—but if you can’t make them all, don’t worry, you’ll still learn something valuable at every session.

Come grow your skills, deepen your rhythm, and step into your power as a DRUMMER!

You want to put it on your altar, but there's no space there with all the other 247 trinkets you already have! What to do?! This workshop is about how we can let go of all those items, release the energy they carry, and feel good about returning them to the natural cycle of life, death, and rebirth. We can also talk about how we can reorient our practices to avoid taking on these items to begin with. Participants will also learn a short, solo ritual they can use to release their item's energy in a positive, calming way. Feel free to bring an item to practice on!

The "Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals" defines Information Literacy as ""the ability to think critically and make balanced judgements about any information we find and use. It empowers us as citizens to develop informed views and to engage fully with society.'  If there's anything we need to do to make progress as individuals as well as in our communities, it's carefully considering the accuracy of information we consume so we can gain accurate and useful understandings of the world around us.  This workshop presents an overview of the key concepts needed to discern the truthfulness of sources of information, especially in digital contexts where it has become more difficult to distinguish reality from wishful thinking, or propaganda that tells us what we want to hear. This workshop provides participants with conceptual tools and real-world examples showing how to consider sources of information to make responsible decisions.

Magic is an important part of the personal practice for many in our community. In this three-part workshop for mature Tweens and Teens, we'll explore what magic is (and isn't), how we can safely and ethically use it, and a selection of magical techniques. Each session will incorporate lecture, discussion, and hands-on elements. Participants should plan on attending all three workshops as the knowledge and skills will built on each other.

A note to parents and caregivers: this workshop presumes the existence of magic as a real force that people can access directly. Before and after, please talk with your child about how you use magic and any practices and taboos in your own spiritual tradition. Most of the practices and techniques we will explore are based in Witchcraft traditions, however we will discuss some practices derived from ceremonial magic and other traditions. For further details please see Rev. Florence.

Magic at the Grocery Store; foraging for the modern witch with Wynne Rath

Witches of old used to gather their supplies in their gardens and the local wooded areas. Modern witches don’t always have that luxury. When we think of crafting our magic, the grocery store is often the last place on our minds, but it is a great resource. This workshop talks about everyday items - things you can find in any place - that can be powerful elements in ritual and magic. An apple holds a pentacle in its core, and is unlikely to trigger those who would find your practice problematic.

Magical Gift Exchange with Rev. Judith

Pathworking Meditation, an Exploration of Skills and Methods with  Cerri Lee

A workshop on how to create and lead deep, meaningful, even transformative meditations. Pathworking meditations are a powerful tool, but learning what works for a variety of people can some times be tricky. There are pitfalls and signposts that we need to look for if we want to allow the space to have personal experience.

The use of language, timing, voice and emotion are all crucial. Whether to be scripted or unscripted, and so on.

We will also look at how to create meditations which are accessible for everyone. Some people have trouble creating images in their minds eye. Some have other more dominant senses or feelings. We will explore a broad set of skills to enhance our abilities for leading meditation.

Relationship Contracts- Intentionality for Life Passage Rituals (PLI) with Wynne Rath

Relationship contracts are a powerful tool to help community members prepare for life passage rituals, and for what comes after.  Creating a contract is an opportunity to consider needs and responsibilities.  Modern society has a very romantic idea of love, and people often expect loved ones to know what they want when they don't even really know. Relationship contracts are an opportunity to define needs, desires, and goals, important things that are often left nebulous or unsaid.

This PLI will be recorded for the Circle Sanctuary Ministry archive.  We will be making a space available behind the camera for anyone who is not comfortable with being video recorded.

Sacred Bonfire Circle Blessing Community Ritual with Sacred Bonfire Coordinators Come open the Sacred Bonfire Circle in our community ritual. There will be ways the community can participate in the actual ritual as well, please see the entry for the Bonfire Planning Meeting.

This year, we will be focusing on the duality in coming together as a community.  The give and take and symbiosis of a harmonious community.  We will be offering tokens that offer you an aspect of either the elements or the divine to focus on during your week.  Those of you who have attended a sacred bonfire might get a bit of deja vu. The tokens you might draw offer a question or phrase for you to contemplate; and are as follows:

Elemental Tokens

Earth: Community is all about taking care of one another; are you being prompted to be of service and caretaking, or is it time you let others care for you?

Air: This is a week ripe with lofty thoughts; are you being called to learn and expand your knowledge, or is it time for you to share the wisdom you have gained?

Fire: Creativity is simmering beneath the surface; is it time to let that energy out, or is it time to stoke the fire of those around you?

Water: Sometimes we are called to share our feelings and innermost thoughts, but don't forget to ask yourself when was the last time you were truly there to listen to those you love?

Divine Tokens

Mercy: Many in times of need have reached out in search of grace, for the calming touch of mercy.  Remember that you too hold the divine inside.  You can offer that grace and mercy to those around you, and you can also grant that mercy upon yourself.

Justice: Looking around anyone can see justice clearly needs a helping hand. How can you fight for what matters? While a sword may help to fell the enemy, a shield can protect those who can’t protect themselves.

Mischief: Despair and oppression would love to rob you of the joy in this life, so any expression of elation is an act of defiance.  Will your rascality brighten someone's day or aggravate the opposition?

Sacred Bonfire Circle Blessing Ritual Planning  with Sacred Bonfire Coordinators

Please join the bonfire crew as they prepare for the ritual. You can take part as a physical manifestation of the energy we will be building. Bring costumes, instruments, and lots of ideas! Dancers, chanters, and drummers should also attend the ritual planning; we need you!

Sacred Hunt Ritual   with Sacred Hunt Coordinating Team

This is an ecstatic ritual with an alchemical melding of the work of the Villagers (Yin), Hunters (Yang), and Drummers (Flux). Inspired by Maureen Murdock’s A Heroine’s Journey and the healing principles of art therapy, this hands-on experience invites you to craft a sacred figure that embodies your inner self, subconscious wisdom, and personal mythology.

What to Expect

Using a variety of materials—including yarn, fabric, clay, and natural elements like wood, feathers, stones, and dried herbs—you will create a unique Spirit Doll that represents your emotions, archetypal energy, or a spiritual guide. This practice allows you to manifest and honor different aspects of yourself, bringing healing and insight to your personal path.

You are encouraged to craft a Spirit Doll that resonates with your own path—whether as a guardian figure, an embodiment of personal power, or a connection to a specific deity or nature spirit. The act of making a Spirit Doll can be a deeply therapeutic and healing experience, offering a tangible way to reclaim lost aspects of yourself. We will also engage in journaling exercises to reflect on what emerges during the process. To enrich the experience, we will have an optional sharing circle, allowing participants to reflect on their journey and the meaning behind their Spirit Dolls.  Participants are encouraged to bring personal objects to incorporate into their dolls—small charms, fabric scraps, handwritten notes, or any items infused with personal energy. No prior artistic experience is needed; just an open heart and a willingness to create.  This is part one of two.  You must attend both sessions.

Faith leaders often get called on to answer questions or impart messages about some of life’s biggest questions, and it’s also our job to help people make meaning of their own lives and experiences, and integrate their values and life philosophy into their everyday decisions and activities. We often don’t talk a lot about these theological or philosophical concepts, though. This roundtable discussion will explore some ideas held by philosophers, theologians and/or people of faith about some of the big questions:  Who or what is/are ‘god’? “What happens when we die?” “Where did we come from before we were born?” “How do I know I’m being a ‘good’ person?” “Why is there suffering and pain in the world?” “Why did ____ happen to me?” Come ready to listen and share!

What Does It Mean to Call a Sun God By Name? (PLI) with Chiron

Are we just being metaphorical or is a stronger claim possible?  Modern Pagans have to grapple with these questions too.  I will lay out my case for a philosophically respectable animism and panpsychism, inviting a dialog to follow.
