Kids Beltane Festival Schedule
If you're planning to attend Circle's Beltane Festival this year and you're bringing your kids, we have an entire program of activities lined up for them thru that weekend.Parental involvement is highly encouraged as these activities are not a daycare program! The activities are meant to provide your kids with great memories, meaningful lessons, and powerful themes of the season. They are also designed for complete parental involvement. The activities planned for Friday and Saturday engage the kids with problem-solving feats, personal challenges of creativity, questions and riddles to teach them about the festival themes, a lot of physical activity to acquaint them with the land and its May energy, introduce them to magical theory in practice, and to make the whole experience fun enough for them want to want to come back again next year. And the next. Which... is the whole point of Beltane after all, isn't it? Sunday morning offers an opportunity for parents and their children to discuss kids programs and activities in the future. There is no need to bring any materials this year, but we do need to know how many children are attending to plan the activities and resources for them. So, please contact evelyn at circle@circlesanctuary.org ASAP if you're planning to bring your kids: let her know their names and ages. This is really important for our planning (after all, we can't get gifts and surprises for every child if you don't tell us exactly who is coming!!) Volunteers needed!! Although we have staff lined up to facilitate the kids activities, we are also looking for volunteers to assist them (especially parents and young adults) throughout the weekend. If you can spare an hour or two to helping breeze manage the kids activities for the Beltane Festival, please let him know at breeze@columbianwicca.org. Here's a sampling of the activities planned for the kids during the Beltaine Festival: Friday Children's ritual prep: all the kids have their special roles in the Friday opening circle. The kids learn their parts so they can help lead the first circle of the festival. Magic Staff workshop: lots of magic is planned for the weekend... so the kids set out to find their magic staffs for their work ahead. Zodiac Workshop: the kids learn the zodiac song and discover why the zodiac has the creatures it does. They create a zodiac guide for Saturday's activities! Saturday Morris Dance Preparation: the kids make their white scraved for the Morris Dances Morris Dancing: the kids learn to dance the old dances! Staff Meeting: the kids gather at a secret spot, cast a circle, and use their magical staffs to find crystals planted in the ground! Zodiac Scavenger Hunt: it's a race to find a list of things handed out at the time of the hunt, all related to the zodiac of course! Sorry, but we can't spoil the surprises. Constellation Workshop There's a lot more to the skies than meets the eyes. Connecting the dots can be a lot of fun, during the day and at night! Main Ritual: the kids help out with portions of the main event! Night Tribe: it's connect the dots time in the skies. The kids learn to identify constellations in the sky over Circle! Sunday Parent/Child Roundtable: parents and their children meet with facilitators to discuss the kinds of activities and festival plans possible for coming sabbats. |
