Also known as Lammas or Lughnassadh, this is the ancient Celtic fire festival marking the height of Summer and the first reaping of the harvest.

This year we celebrate a Down Home Lughnassadh, enjoying the blessings of the Land and our Community. Join us for a weekend of workshops and good friends, with evenings of drumming and dancing and conversation by the bonfire!

FRIDAY, July 27
11 AM Merchant arrivals and setup begins
Noon Gate opens to Public.
1 PM - 7 PM Magical Merchant Faire - visit booths with a variety of Pagan wares, including books, clothing and jewelry.
1:30 - 2 PM Faery Shrine Tour - Selena Fox will guide you through the newly-expanded Faery Shrine!
2 - 2:30 PM Faery Shrine Blessing - Selena Fox and & Edain McCoy. Come out and re-energize the space! Adults and children are welcome.
3:30 - 4:30 PM Moon Magick workshop - Edain McCoy. Tips on working with the energies of the Moon in all phases.
4:30 - 5 PM Book Signing with Edain McCoy, on the Green. Books will be available for sale.
5 - 6 PM Dinner
7 - 8:30 PM Celtic Music Concert - Kip Celtic Band, performing Celtic tunes & 1800's American folk music.
8:30 - 9:30 PM Green Magic Rite - with Selena Fox and others. A ritual of festival blessing and attunement to the Green world of plants and Nature spirits. We will celebrate the Full Moon and the height of Summer with invocations, meditation, chanting, fire offerings, and drumming. Bring a candle lantern or candle in a jar for use in creating sacred space. Bring dried herbs to cast into the Lughanssad fire.
9:30 PM Bonfire Drum & Dance, and Labyrinth Opening. Enjoy the interplay of rhythm, song and fire - or walk the Labyrinth for divination and reflection.

8:30 - 9 AM Newcomers' Meeting - A brief orientation to Circle Sanctuary
9 - 10 AM Nature Walk with Reed - learn about the wide diversity of plant life in the Labyrinth, and around the Sanctuary
9 AM - 7 PM Magical Merchant Faire
Childrens' Scavenger Hunt - Lists available at the Childrens' Center! The Hunt goes all day long on Saturday.
10:30 - 11:30 AM Mugwort Harvest - Gather sacred herbs for use year-round

1:00 - 2:30 PM Healing Power of Faery workshop - by Edain McCoy. Who are the faery, why are they returning, and how we can work in partnership with them to achieve healing of body and spirit? Includes a lengthy meditation into the faery realm.
Childrens' Shrine Tour with Marshall. Visit many shrines and other sacred places on Circle Land and learn to work with their energies!
2:30 - 3:00 PM Book Signing with Edain McCoy, on the Green. Books will be available for sale.
Harry Potter Dress-Up and Parade (youth & adults) Youth of all ages are invited to dress up as a character from a Harry Potter book/movie. At 3 pm, Potter book/movie characters will do a short procession in and around the Maypole and then the Temple Room, arriving for the first part of Selena's workshop.
3 - 4:30 PM Witching Worlds: Wiccan Ways & Harry Potter Witchcraft - with Selena Fox. A look at the impact of the widespread popularity of Harry Potter books, movies, games, and memorabilia on pop culture and on public perceptions of Witchcraft. How has this form of storybook Witchcraft affected the Wiccan religion and Pagan religious rights? Is Pottermania helpful, problematic, or some of both for Wiccan practitioners and other Pagans? What are some ways that Harry Potter stories, characters, and ethical themes can be incorporated in youth and adult spiritual education? Selena shares some of her perspectives and then facilitates a community discussion.

8 - 9:30 PM Main Green Spirit Ritual - Gather for Saturday's main ritual to celebrate the fullness of Summer, join in gratitude for the bounty of the life harvest given by the Earth, and honor the sacred chase...the Mystery of the Lammas season..

SUNDAY, July 29

9 AM - 2 PM Magical Merchant Faire
9:30 - 10 AM Parents' Meeting - in the Childrens' Center. A discussion of how Childrens' programming worked this weekend, and how the program might expand for future events.
10 - 11:30 AM How to do Automatic Writing - by Edain McCoy. A hands-on workshop discussing the history, practice, advantages, and problems of automatic writing as a method of divination. Attendees will need a gel or felt tipped pen and a sturdy pad of paper.
11:30 AM - Noon Festival Closing Ritual - with Selena Fox, Aspen and Georgette. Thanks and blessings to festival participants for your journey home.
Noon - 1PM Lunch
1:30 - 2:30 PM Green World Healing Ritual - facilitated by Selena Fox. This ecospiritual ritual honors our connections with the great Circle of Nature and includes chanting, drumming, meditation, and a working for planetary well-being and world peace. It will be held in the Stone Circle. Bring a stone, crystal, or rock to give to the Stone Circle along with a prayer/wish for some aspect of planetary healing. Wear colorful garb and/or a crown of flowers and/or herbs, if you wish. Parts of this rite may be filmmed for public release as part of Circle Sanctuary's environmental and Pagan public education work.
4 PM Cleanup and Departures

Items to Bring

  • Stone, Crystal or rock offering for the Stone Circle.
  • Ritual garb and/or brightly colored or green clothing, to wear during the ritual.
  • Offering for the Faery Shrine (optional) to give on Friday afternoon or other time
  • Large handful of a favorite dried herb to cast into the Fire in Friday night's rite
  • Candle lantern or candle in jar for Friday night ritual procession
  • Harry Potteresque dress-up garb for youth (optional) for Saturday afternoon appearance at Selena's workshop
  • Harry Pottersque figurines, tools, other memorabilia for altar at Selena's workshop
  • Sturdy pad of paper and felt-tipped or gel marker for Edain's Sunday morning workshop
  • Contribution for potluck feast to feed at least two dozen, for Saturday dinner. For details, please see our Potluck Guidelines.
  • Please help us conserve paper: bring your own cup to use for drinks at meals and other times.
  • Camping Gear: tent, sleeping bag, pillow, air mattress, flashlight, water jug, towel, biodegradable soap and shampoo, personal toiletries, sungear, raingear, insect and tick repellent.
  • A lawn chair, mat, or blanket for outdoor seating. Many activities will be outside.
  • Drum, rattle, or other rhythm instrument. (optional)
