Community Yule Festival

Each year, members of the Circle Sanctuary Community, guests, and those interested in becoming part of our Community celebrate the Winter Solstice holiday season with our Community Yule Festival. Our Festival includes a variety Pagan Yuletide customs, including burning the Yule Log, invoking and honoring the Great Mother Goddess and the Sacred Sun, exchanging gifts, sharing Yuletide lore, feasting, making merry, and communing with the Land in sacred ways.

10 am - 11: am Yuletide Spirit: Commune with the Land, shop the Resources shop, Drink Wassail, Add decorations to the Yule tree, Snack on holiday foods.

11 am to Noon Pagan Caroling: Join Shel Skau, and Teresa Lynch in singing old familiar tunes with a Pagan flavor.

Noon - 1 pm Sacred Winter Solstice Sites: Join Selena and Angie on a trip around the world to visit sacred places dedicated to the Winter Solstice. New Grange (Ireland), Stonehenge (England), Castle Rigg (England), Karnak (Egypt), Cahokia Woodhenge (Illinois), Chaco Canyon (New Mexico), Uaxactun (Guatemala), Tulum (Mexico), Machu Picchu (Peru), Ta' Hagrat, Mgarr (Malta), Angkor Wat (Cambodia), and many other places where our ancestors and other ancient peoples gathered to witness the longest night.

1:30 pm Yule Ritual: Welcome Winter in this outdoor Pagan ritual that includes the burning of the Yule Log.

3:30 pm Yuletide Story: Schnitzle, Schnotzle, Schnootzle A magical tale of gift-giving. by Jean of Storylore

4:00 pm Magical Gift Exchange: Join Santa (Cougar) and the Elfairie (Elspeth) to give and receive a magical gift. The children's gift circle will be followed by the one for adults.

5:30 pm Yule Potluck Feast faciltiated by WillowHawk & MoonFeather

7:30 pm Clean-up & Departures

Registration: Please pre-registration by phone (608-924-2216), email (events@circlesanctuary.org) or online (using our secure online registration form) by noon on Friday, December 17th. Register with the full name, address, phone, and email of all persons attending, and indicate if you need directions. Registration Contribution is: $20/adult, $10/youth (ages 5-17). Pay contribution upon arrival via check or cash, or in advance over the phone with MasterCard or Visa. This event will be held regardless of weather conditions.

Please Bring:
  • 3 or more cans of food to donate to Circle's annual food drive
  • Magical gift to exchange: please write your name and something about the spiritual significance of the gift on a card (so that the receiver of your gift can thank you) and wrap the card and the gift in opaque paper (that can't be seen through)

  • Bell to ring during the ritual
  • Stone for the Stone Circle
  • Dress in holiday colors (red, green, or white), if you want.
  • Snacks (optional) for the social hour at the beginning of the day.
