Pagan Spirit Gathering 2009
Music & Musicians

Music is an important part of PSG. There are concerts on the main stage, a performing arts show, chanting and singing and drumming at morning Town Meetings, drumming and other music-related workshops, and night long drumming and ecstatic dancing at the Bonfire Circle.

Bellawyck

BellaWyck is a group of four women who are filled with the Love and Spirit of the Great Goddess. Their unique sound combines torchy blues, rock, bluegrass, and soulful earth chants into their music that is inspired by the Goddess, the Gods, and all of Earth around them. Their mirthful Spellsongs about the magickal bond of sisterhood, mixed with their sensual and deeply enchanting tunes about the sacred Chalice and the symbolic magick within each of us, inspires us all to be powerful, and fully empowered, while having as much fun as possible on this life journey, and not taking ourselves too seriously. Join us for show that is sure to be entertaining and visually stimulating, filled with the sounds of several sister-song voices, the melodies of the guitar, mandolin, bass, and various percussives, and a night that you will never forget.

Coyote Run

Touring the country, Coyote Run presents sweeping soundscapes in concert halls, earthy celtic vibes at pagan and highland festivals, and rollicking good times at the PA Renaissance Faire. Now join them as they return to PSG to engage the audience in story after story - whisking them away to march side by side with Joan of Arc, or to roll out the guns against Sir Francis Drake, invade the French city of Calais, snatch back a faerie abductee, or witness a woman prevail after a cruel witch trial. Tight harmonies and soaring vocals telling tales from legend, history and myth are the hallmark of this band. Blending traditional tunes with rich, literate lyrics, compelling melodies and rock, jazz and flamenco instrumental hooks, Coyote Run weaves a tapestry unlike any other. Bagpipes, didgeridoo, tribal drums, and much more greet the audience at a Coyote Run concert. Something in the alchemical mix of the players and their unique backgrounds creates a seamless, adrenaline filled show that never lets up. From the growling, rhythmic screams of the didgeridoo, to the rich, polyrhythms of the drums, to the monstrous and intricate bass lines, to the lyrical whimsy of the whistles, to the triumph of the bagpipes - this is a band of decidedly eclectic tastes that will not be constrained by genre or style. Come and experience the magic that is Coyote Run!

Craig Olson

Craig Olson is a singer/songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist from the Pacific Northwest. He has released two albums on Mud Bay Records and has been a session musician on many others including “Sonic Tribe” on Soundings of the Planet record label. 2009 marks the tenth anniversary of his first CD “Beyond the Cedar Moon” which received rave reviews in the Pagan press and launched a new direction in his career. His second CD “Hold On!” features members of his then-touring band “Cedar Moon” and continued in the Pagan Rock genre. One of his songs “All One People,” a rap/rock anti-Bush rant, is ranked #5 best lyrics of all time on Garageband dot com. He has toured nationally with the band “Ohio Express” of Mars Talent Agency / Utopia Artists and has performed on the west coast with such bands as “Gaia Consort,” “Craig Olson Band” and most recently a new experimental project called “Blind Watchmakers.” This year's PSG solo performance will include songs from his two CD's as well as newer material. He lives in woods outside Bellingham, Washington with his wife Joanna Powell Colbert, artist and creatrix of the Gaian Tarot.

One Hat Band

The One Hat Band has seen many evolutions and deviations through-out the years, from a 10 piece orchestra, down to a 2 man show. The current evolution mostly finds Michael and Pearl(mom and dad) touring the tri-state area of Iowa, Wisconsin and Illinois in their duo The Broken Rubber Band.

Jakob(28) has been seen all over the US this last year touring with the Austin, Texas based band The Asylum Street Spanker's and is currently teaching music and playing with The Blackberry Bushes and other bands in Seattle, WA and the greater Puget Sound area.
David(27) and Maple's(26) Biscuit Family Band has been on maternity leave with the birth on their second son, Nakoa Moonhawk. But they've found a little free time to join the family in a few TOHB gigs.
Jackson(21) and River(20) and the rest of River and the Tributaries, their Iowa City, IA based band, have continued to go to new depths with their amazing and unique song writing and style as they trickle into water sheds through-out the mid-west.
Chiron(11), the newly revised star of TOHB, has been working hard on his private music studies, and is now bringing to the stage, along with his fiddling and kick-ass vocals, guitar and all things percussion.
Alam(4) might be said to be shying away from his fame as TOHB's littlest fiddler, but he continues to work on his beat-boxing and break-dancing to bring a new flavor of hip-hop to TOHB(not that many have forgotten TOHB covering Snoop Dogg's Gin and Juice).

Where ever the Breitbach family's musical journeys are taking them, they always love to join back together for some Family Fun! Join them at PSG 2009 to see what this years consortium will bring.

Pagee Go Go

Pagee Go Go is a six-piece band that has an ongoing love affair with Brazilian music. They are a tight group with strong vocals, beautiful melodies, and a swinging percussion section. Born in the streets and courtyards of Rio de Janeiro and northeastern Brazil, the music is a blend of European song forms with African percussion. Infectious, upbeat Samba is Pagee Go Go's greatest passion, along with with Bossa Nova, the mellow younger sibling to Samba, and Forró, a style from the northeast of Brazil that sounds a little bit like Cajun music. The band now includes their own interpretation of some classic sambas, original songs (in English), and unique interpretations of classic American songs.

It all starts with Pagee Go Go's two lead vocalists. Kristin Maxwell has a sweet, strong voice that alternately soars and whispers. Barry Treichel provides the compliment with his distinctly rhythmic style and powerful melodies. The string section includes the guitar and the cavaquinho. Guitarist Jeff Alexander studies the Brazilian and African guitar masters, and you can hear it in his masterful style. Chris Deisinger plays the cavaquinho, a small steel-stringed guitar that is the heart of Samba, and has created his own style based on his many years of musical experience. Reena Tyler and Marko Oles are the heartbeat percussion section playing a number of handheld instruments that hold down and embellish the samba groove, including the bass drum tantan, the pandeiro, cuica, and others. They combine to produce the intricate, swinging rhythm that drives the whole band, and puts the crowd on their feet!

SONA

Since serendipity brought them together in the sweet summer fields at Starwood in 2000, SONA have been performing songs about their many experiences and travels in the land of pagandom... and about all of the delight and glee, and sometimes pain, that has followed them on their path. Several of their tunes have been directly inspired by PSG, in fact, a place that they have considered a second home for many years. Their music is jovial and at times spiritually introspective, yet usually light hearted, and their original sound is a fun mixture of bluegrass, rock, and mystical melodies that float on the air along with the delightful unison of their voices. Listen in, and you are likely to hear a song that you recognize... from ages past. They are delighted to be back once again, here for you at PSG, and hope to see you under the solstice sun...
