Letter from Roberta Stewart to President George W. Bush
November 6, 2006

George W. Bush
The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
Washinton, D.C 20500

Dear President Bush:

After watching your live speech on October 31, 2006, where in you say that Senator Kerry needs to apologize to the troops and the families of the military men and women who have lost their lives is this war, I must say as a widow of SGT. Patrick Dana Stewart, I think you owe the troops and the families who have lost loved ones an apology.

As my husband's memorial plaque remains a blank spot on the wall of heroes in Fernley Nevada, one year and one month after his murder by enemy fire in Operation Enduring Freedome in Deh Chopin, Afghanistan. I can only say that freedom is not something I know because you and your political appointees took my husbands and my and religious freedom away, along with many other Pagan/Wiccan soldiers and veterans.

When you said, You said, "the Almighty God brings Freedom", you speak in your faith only I assume, as me and my family and many Pagan/Wiccan soldiers and veterans know not of the freedom of which you speak.

I know this letter will probably go through your normal and general response and be sent to the VA to Secretary, James Nicholson or Undersecretary William Tuerk. I have already spoke with Mr. Tuerk and corresponded with Mr. Nicholson with no success on this issue. So I would request a response directly from You.

As you and your political appointees continue to dishonor my husband (a fallen US solider) and the many other Pagan/Wiccan soldiers and veterans who are serving this Country or have served this Country, it saddens me greatly to know that the President of the United States will not uphold the Constitution of the United States and you continue to publicly speak about how free America is. (Where is our religious freedom?)

It would only take your approval of a religious emblem to honor my husband and lay him to rest along with many other fallen soldiers and those soon to pass. But you and your political appointees continue the nine year delay. May your Almighty God forgive you and your political appointees for dishonoring my husband SGT. Patrick Dana Stewart and his fellow Wiccan/Pagan comrades and causing extreme suffering of their families. I pray each day that you and your political appointees will uphold the Constitution of the United States, but still I wait and suffer. Until that time I will as a Gold Star Wife of an American Hero and an American myself continue to fight for my Constitutional rights that You and your political appointees continue to deny me and all Wiccan/Pagan soldiers, veterans and their families.

Your prompt response would be appreciated or has my family and other not suffered enough through your bureaucratic red tape.

Sincerely,

Roberta Stewart
Widow of SGT. Patrick D. Stewart
An American Solider and Hero
