Headstones

Circle Sanctuary and the Pagan religious freedom network it sponsors, Lady Liberty League, have been working for equal rights for Pagans in the US military as well as in society as a whole for more than twenty years. Information about our work is on-line: http://www.circlesanctuary.org/militarypagansupport

We share the goal and idea of those who are part of what is known as the Pagan Headstone Campaign that Pagan vets should have the option to have an emblem of their religion on their headstone after death just as those of some other religions do.

However, Circle Sanctuary and Lady Liberty League have not decided to join the Pagan Headstone Campaign at this point or to be publicly associated with it as of yet.

Circle Sanctuary and Lady Liberty League are presently in an information gathering process and are likely to be for some time. After we have completed this process, we will make our decision.

It has been our experience that it is essential in working toward an important goal like this for military protocols to be followed, for communications with officials to be mannerly, and for all tactics to be honest, ethical, and above reproach. Also, it is best to proceed slowly with a carefully thought out plan.

As part of our information gathering process, some who work with our organizations are on this list in order to learn of perspectives and ideas of others who share the goal of Pagan emblems on vet headstones.

We are carefully considering what is the best approach for us to take to accomplish this shared goal in view of other work we have done on behalf of Pagans in the military in the past and the work that is presently in process.

As part of our information gathering process, we are assessing need and would like to hear from military Pagan vets as well as those on active duty who want the option of having a Pagan religious emblem on their headstone after death. We particularly would like to hear from anyone who has applied for this option and what your experiences have been. Please email us directly at liberty@mhtc.net with HEADSTONE in the subject line. Thank you.
