Lady Liberty League Freedom Fund

Lady Liberty League Report - Circle Magazine, Winter 2001

Since its founding in 1985, the Lady Liberty League has been involved in important religious freedom work for Pagans. While we are continuing to provide information and networking support to individuals and groups who have experienced discrimination because they are Wiccan/Pagan, this year LLL has significantly expanded its endeavors. We have broadened our focus to include direct negotiations with political leaders and institutional administrators, chaplains, and other personnel in order to assure that Pagans are afforded the same rights, protections, benefits, and privileges as other world religions. Additionally, we are increasing our presence and participation in interfaith organizations and events.

In the past year, the Lady Liberty League has been the essential financial sponsor of the prison ministry work of Patrick McCollum. Patrick's achievements have been historical and monumental. Patrick has had successful, face-to-face negotiations with administrators and government officials in four different states and has participated in ongoing court proceedings on a Federal level to insure that Pagans in the prison system are provided the same first amendment protection as those of other faiths.

Also within in the past year, Angie Buchanan has continued to organize interfaith spirituality gatherings as well as to meet personally with interfaith leaders and establish an overt Pagan presence at interfaith events. Selena Fox has continued her involvement with interfaith networking, media work, as well as her work as a consultant to federal chaplains at the Pentagon and the US Department of Justice.

We have accomplished a great deal, but so much more must be done. The costs of air travel for meetings; postage for the shipping of supplies, educational materials, and follow up correspondence; and the long distance telephone expenses continue to mount. In order for the work of Patrick, Angie, Selena, and other LLL activists in the field that are on the front lines of our religious freedom issues to progress, we need you to join us and to become a part of this important movement.

All quality nonprofit organizations need financial resources to help achieve their goals. Circle Sanctuary's Lady Liberty League has only one means of financial support: your contribution is, and always has been, critical to our success. We need help - urgently - from people who care about protecting the first amendment, and promoting the concept that freedom of religion means all religions, including Paganism; in public schools, hospitals, prisons, the military, universities and other institutions of higher learning. In order to support all of these objectives, our goal is to collect at least $5,000 by Spring Equinox, 2002.

One person really can make a difference and influence the course of human events. One person really can have a significant impact on religious freedom endeavors. Please support our efforts. Don't leave this important work up to "the other person." Circle Sanctuary's Lady Liberty League is at a financial crossroads this year and we earnestly need your generous giving to sustain the important work we have begun. We need YOU! Please give generously. Make checks and money orders payable to the Lady Liberty League. Donations also can be made by credit card and are tax deductible in the USA.
