Visiting Circle Sanctuary
Circle Sanctuary has several ancient Native American sites on its land, including what is known today as Spirit Rock.

Some of the other ceremonial places on our land have developed as ritual sites in recent years, including our Stone Circle (begun 1983) and Brigid's Spring, a year-round natural bubbling spring, which we have used as a meditation and healing place for more than ten years. Since we moved to the land in 1983, our land has been a pilgrimage place for Pagans and others involved in Ecospirituality.

We are still learning about the ancient Native American history of this area - the large mound (third highest point in Wisconsin), now known as Blue Mound, and presently home to Blue Mound State Park, is the next ridge over from our land. Blue Mound was a sacred place for the Ho Chunk people (named the Winnebago by French explorers).

Also the Isthmus in Madison, about 27 miles away, was an inter-tribal gathering place.  Iowa County, in which Circle Sanctuary is located is one of the richest areas of paleo-Indian rock art in the region.

And, although not a religious site, Frank Lloyd Wright's home and school (in Iowa County, west of Circle Sanctuary) has become a pilgrimage place for thousands each year who celebrate his work of creating architecture that harmonizes with Nature and the surrounding environment.

Circle Sanctuary Nature Preserve is open to visitors during various festivals, Sanctuary Days and other special events held throughout the year. Arrangements to visit at these and any other times must be made in advance. There are also certain festival times when the Sanctuary is open only to Circle Community members.

Sorry but... unscheduled visits are not an option. Dates and details about events happening at Circle Sanctuary land are posted on the website Upcoming Events page.
