by Selena Fox On an altar or table, place an image of Haiti, such as a map or photo from this website. Around it place five candles in candle holders to be lit with each blessing. If desired, also have available tea lights or other candles for additional expressions of blessing. Have matches or a lighter for kindling candles. A bell can also be included and used at the end of each blessing. This rite can be facilitated by a leader or several. Blessings can be said by leader(s) as candles are lit, or can be said in unison by all taking part in the rite. Begin by having all present silently connecting with and asking for assistance of the Divine, each according to their own path. Then begin the candle lighting. We Light the Candle of Healing for the Living who have survived the earthquake and for their loved ones with blessings of comfort, support, reconnection, and sustenance. Be Well. We Light the Candle of Remembrance for the Dead and the Dying with blessings for their transitions in the Otherworld. Be at Peace. We Light the Candle of Strength for the Relief Workers with blessings of stamina.and protection. Be Strong. We Light the Candle of Cooperation for All in the World who are contributing help in various ways with blessings of good communication and effective collaboration. Be in Harmony. We Light the Candle of Renewal for the Land and All in the Circle of Life there with blessings of relief, recovery, and regeneration. Be Renewed. So Be It. Following these five candle blessings, additional candles can be lit and placed on the altar around the five candles with other expressions of blessings, prayers, and wishes, such as for situations and specific individuals and organizations in need. Once candles are kindled, have a period of quiet reflection, and then conclude with: Blessings to Haiti. Blessed Be. Click here to return to the main Haiti Relief page. |
